The Solicitor General noted that there are constitutional issues that have arisen since the rejection of the Draft Constitution, which
may have far reaching consequences on the TRRC’s recommendations on prosecutions, as well as on other transitional justice processes
and mechanism. He reassured participants that this issue was not to be brushed aside by the Government.
H. Other observations
Ms. Ndumbeh Saho from the Office of the President stressed the importance of including the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the
Women’s Bureau during the consultation process, as well as UN Women and all other organizations working on issues relating to the
socio-economic advancement of women in The Gambia. This was noted by Ms. De, whilst explaining that UNFPA has taken on this
convening role and is doing so efficiently.
Ms. Yvonne Masarakufa from OHCHR, on the principle of leaving no one behind, highlighted the rights of Persons with Disabilities
(PWDs). She noted that pending the domestication of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the Bill is before the
National Assembly) it is needed to further reflect on how to ensure that PwDs are included throughout the governance landscape.
