Mr. Marenah thanked ActionAid for its effort in reducing violence against women and whilst acknowledging Mr. Badjie’s
intervention on the lack of information in this area, the Solicitor General noted that the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Women’s
Bureau do collect information on gender-based violence and the CCA should be indicative of their findings.
F. Corruption
Mr. Davies from the Anti-Corruption Coalition expressed general disappointment in the slow pace taken on the drafting of an
Anti-Corruption Bill, which commenced over 8 years ago and which he noted, was insufficient in protecting Gambians from corruption.
Mr. Davies noted that though the establishment of an Anti-Corruption Commission would strengthen the fight against corruption in The
Gambia, there persists a myriad of legislative, political, and social issues that would undermine the work of the Commission. Mr. Marenah
agreed with this conclusion, emphasising that significant improvements in this area would not be achieved without efforts from the
citizenry.
Mr. Davies encouraged the Government to not fight corruption in the dark and publish the results of the first review cycle of the
UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). He also urged Government to integrate anti-corruption mechanisms in all levels of
governance. In response, Mr. Marenah, whilst acknowledging that the Bill was long overdue, also encouraged the Anti-Corruption
