        COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS

           Four Beta Mu members serve on the board of the Gary Human Relations Commission: Soror Nora Robbs, Board President, Soror Mozelle
           Anderson, Soror Finis Springer, and Soror Onitta Parker. The HCRC is currently reviewing cases of housing violations and
           unjust services provided to tenants by landlords as well as other discriminatory complaints. The Commission serves to inform citizens
           of their rights and educating tenets on carefully reading lease documents. The Commission also spearheads issues affecting Senior
           Citizens. Commission meetings are held on the third of each month at 5:00pm and the 2  Monday at 4:00pm.

            The 2019-2020 sororal year was opened with a chapter retreat, and internal/leadership training session at the Lake County
            Library, Merrillville, IN.
            Monthly birthday announcements are made at each meeting.
            Christmas Social/Roundup luncheon was held at Innsbrook Golf Club, Merrillville, IN. Sorors enjoyed various bonding
            activities and received gifts.
            Sorors visited sick and shut-in sorors.
            An end of the 2018-2019 year, a celebratory meeting was held in conjunction with the last meeting of the sororal year at
            Asparagus.
            The “Soror of the Year” award is presented each year during Teach-A- Rama. That award goes to the Soror that best
            exemplifies the characteristic of sisterhood, and the work of the Sorority. This year, Sorors Joan Washington was presented
            with the “Soror of the Year” Award.

            Ten Beta Mu Sorors traveled to Oak Park, IL for the annual Tri-state Founder’s Day program hosted by the Zeta Gamma Chapter. The celebration
            consisted of representatives from each of the four participating chapters, Beta Mu, Mu, and Zeta Gamma. A delicious lunch followed by
            the dynamic and inspiring guest speaker. Soror Annie Lott was Basileus of the Zeta Gamma Chapter.

             Beta Mu will host Founders’ Day Saturday, May 23, 2020, at the Avalon Banquet Center, Merrillville, IN.
