Completely Randomized Design – An experimental design used for studies
conducted under homogeneous conditions.
Conclusion – A generalization drawn from a particular study after it has been
completed; a general statement which answers an objective or a
hypothesis of a study.
Constant - A variable, which can assume only one value.
Continuous Variable - A variable, which can theoretically assume any value
between two given values.
Continuous Data - date which can be expressed in term of range (fraction,
decimal numbers (e.g. height, weight).
Control - Experimental material that is purposely untreated, to be use as a
baseline set of information against which is to compare treatments effects.
Data – The aggregate of gathered observations from an experiment.
Deductive (or descriptive) Statistic - The phase of statistics which seek only to
describe and analyze a given sample without drawing any conclusion or
inferences about a larger group or population.
Degrees of Freedom – The total number of observations subtracted by the
number of restrictions imposed on the aggregate data; n-1 value associated
with an estimate for unbiasness.
Dependent variable – The outcome or effect of the independent variable; the
variable the experimenter observes, measures and describes in relation to
the independent variable.
Discrete data - Is data, which are expressed as whole numbers/data.
Discrete variable - A variable, which can assume any, one values given in the
domain.
Dispersion - Degree to which numerical data tends to spread about an average
value.
DMRT – A sequential statistical test used to determine significance of
differences among all possible pairs of means of experiments involving large
number of treatments.
Enumerations/counting - The procedure of collecting data, which can give rise
to discrete data.
Experiment – An act or operation carried out under conditions determined by
the experimenter to discover unknown principle or effect.
Experimental Design - The manner in which treatments are selected and
experimental units.
