Books that perpetuate sexual or racial stereotype
Any title over 10 years old that is not on a standard list
Textbook after 10 yrs.
Medicine, inventions, radio, television and business after 10-15 yrs.
Encyclopedias at least 10-20 years, preferably 10
Almanacs, directories, yearbooks-get latest editions and keep for historical purposes for 10-15
years.
SUPERFLUOUS/DUPLICATE VOLUMES
Second copies may not be necessary. Check circulation frequently and weed out materials that
do not fit the general purposes of the library.
CONTENT
Not only dated information, but materials that are poorly written or incorrect should be
removed. Look for titles for which later editions may be available and preferable.
SHELF TIME
Books that have not been checked out for eight or more years should be considered for de-
selection.
VII. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF LIBRARY PERSONNEL
The function of the Head Librarian is to oversee the two important services- Technical & section and
the entire library.
Head Librarian
Organizes direct a system which the library materials are made available or accessible to the students
and faculty.
Recommends to the College Administrators, administrative policies, rules and regulations, materials and
book to be acquired for the library.
Orient the staff as to their duties and responsibilities and render general supervision and evaluate their
performance and accomplishment.
Render library orientation to all new enrollees of the University.
Assist students in their choice of information materials available in the library.
Prepares reacquisition for books and other library materials for approval by concerned personnel.
Technically process (cataloging, indexing, etc.) all library resources.
Prepare and submit reports when needed.
Conduct inventories of library materials and equipments.
Circulation Librarian
Charge and discharge books and other materials to users.
Record the number of books borrowed and clients served for statistics.
Impose proper discipline to the students at the reading area.
Maintain proper arrangement of books, periodicals, etc. on their respective shelves.
Repair destroyed books and other library materials.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the library.
Prepares monthly report on collected library fines.
