T REGIMENT OF ARTILLERY-THROUGH THE REUNIONS
HE SIXTH REUNION
“If you don’t have enough Artillery, quit”

he attendees at the Artillery Conference held at Artillery Centre, Hyderabad in September
T 1977, came to a consensus on celebrating the Sixth Reunion of the Regiment of Artillery at
Artillery Centre, Nasik Road in November 1978. The Senior Gunners unanimously agreed upon
conduct of event at Nasik, is view of a compact setup and better facilities to host the event. It was
also decided that all the future Reunions for the Regiment, be held at the twin stations of Nasik /
Devlali.
Event before the preparations could start, there was a change of command at the helm of
affairs at the Artillery Centre in the end of January 1978. Colonel DP Dhillon, the Centre
Commandant handed over the reigns in very capable hands of Col RK Nanda and proceeded for his
next assignment on promotion. Having got the green signal, the formality of seeking permissions
for holding the Reunion, finalisation of programmes, fixing of dates, allocation of the finances and
resources commenced in right earnest. Brigadier JR Malhotra was the Commandant School of
Artillery.
General OP Malhotra PVSM, COAS and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of
Artillery graced the occasion. Amongst the distinguished visitors were General PP
Kumaramangalam, DSO, (Retired), Lieutenant General PS Gyani, PVSM (Retired), Lieutenant
General KP Candeth, PVSM (Retired), Major General Mohinder Singh, MVC, MC (Retired),
Major General Ranbir Bakshi, MC (Retired) and Major Gen KD Vasishta, PVSM (Retired). The

veterans started arriving by specially arranged coaches attached with regular trains from 2
November 1978 onwards, from various parts of the country. It was a memorable event attended by
nearly sixty nine retired officers, sixty eight retired JCOs, two hundred and forty two retired other
ranks and thirty two war widows.
