CORE Construction
ST. PETERSBURG COLLEGE SOLAR ARRAY
The St. Petersburg College Solar Array project, built for St. Petersburg College, included
the new construction of a 57 kilowatt photovoltaic solar array on the College’s Seminole
campus located in Seminole, Florida and a 43 kilowatt photovoltaic solar array on the
Clearwater campus located in Clearwater, Florida. The two photovoltaic solar arrays
function as renewable energy collectors and distributors for the college campuses. The
photovoltaic solar arrays were constructed on concrete foundations with a structural steel
frame. At the Seminole campus, the solar cells on the array consisted of a flexible thin-
film amorphous silicon, or Thin-Film Technology, which were mounted on a free standing
solar rack apparatus. On the Seminole campus, Crystalline silicon, or Crystalline Technology,
comprised the solar cells in the array, which were mounted on top of a covered walkway.
Due to CORE’s sustainable construction practices, the St. Petersburg College project
increases community awareness of renewable energy sources and exposes college students
to cutting edge sustainable technology.
