SCIENCE LABORATORY BUILDING AT ILLINOIS STATE
UNIVERSITY
The Science Laboratory Building project, built for Illinois State University, included the new construction of a 130,000-square
foot educational facility. The facility houses state-of-the-art instructional and research laboratories for the Chemistry and
Biological Sciences departments. The four-story facility was constructed of a glass exterior skin and also featured a four-story
atrium, custom-designed, see-through fume hoods in the laboratories, computerized growth chambers in the greenhouse,
and a multimedia room with video conferencing and distance learning capability in an electronic classroom. The Science
Laboratory Building was awarded the State of Illinois Thomas H. Madigan Award for Outstanding New Construction and
the F.W. Dodge Midwest Construction Magazine Outstanding Public Project.
