CORE Construction
IRWIN ARMY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AT FORT RILEY
The Irwin Replacement Army Hospital, built as a Joint Venture with Balfour Beatty, included the
new construction of a three-story, 550,000 square foot military hospital located at Fort Riley, KS.
The facility functions as an inpatient community hospital with 44 patient beds, an outpatient clinic,
and central energy plant. The military hospital was constructed on a foundation of piles with a steel
structural frame. A precast, brick, and curtainwall exterior and modified bitumen roof completed the
construction. The project also includes an ambulance garage and 653-space vehicle parking garage as
well as healing gardens and meditation areas for patients, families, and staff, acuity adaptable patient
rooms, patent lifts, and semi-decentralized nursing stations. The military hospital achieved LEED Silver
Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for incorporating recycled materials, energy efficient
technologies, daylighting, and regionally sourced materials. Due to CORE’s sustainable construction
practices, the Irwin Replacement Army Hospital provides an energy efficient facility for the healthcare
of soldiers and their families.
