VIGYAN PRASAR: 54th GOVERNING BODY MEETING & 31st GENERAL BODY MEETING
Annexure # 5: Representation from Vigyan Prasar wrt its suggested closure
Why should VP be empowered as a much stronger organization?
S&T Communication, Popularization & Extension is far beyond mere publicity/public relations. VP has acquired the required knowledge, skill, expertise and network in its past 32 years of existence. Any concept of cell replacing Vigyan Prasar would thus compromise the national agenda of building and nurturing the scientific temper.
Thus, the closure of Vigyan Prasar would be an irreversible loss to the nation
Replication of knowledge products developed by VP through outsourcing is imminent. However, content aggregation/generation/validation and development of subsequent knowledge products require unique skill sets gained by VP over a period of time.
VP has emerged as the nation’s only center with adequate trained and experienced academicians & technical experts in the domain of S&T Communication, Popularization & Extension.
Suggested Conclusion
VP is currently at an inflection point in the nation’s growth story, driven by science & technology communication, popularization and extension at a stage when it possesses the required ability to evolve as a centre of excellence – IISCoPE (Indian Institute of Science Communication, Popularization & Extension).
Vigyan Prasar should thus be further strengthened to serve the country in the domain of S&T Communication, Popularization & Extension.
