A. Employee/Visitor Evacuation Procedures
Know your plan:
• where the fire-alarms pulls are
• where the closest fire exits in your department are
• where the fire extinguishers are
• where to meet in case of a fire.
• In the event of a fire, sound the alarm by pulling the red fire alarms. Report the fire to the
Receptionist/Manager on duty and they will phone the fire department
• Employees should shut off equipment, except when instructed otherwise, and evacuate
by nearest safe exit and report to the assembly location
• In the event that a fire is at:
Acton: All employees should take the closest and safest exit route proceed to the
parking lot behind 8 Commerce Crescent.
Vancouver: All employees should take the closest and safest exit route and proceed
to sidewalk on Kent Avenue south, not in the parking lot.
• Management should ensure the fire department has been called and that the building
has been evacuated safely.
• Supervisors / Health and Safety Members in all building are responsible for bringing any portable
first-aid kits and defibrillators safely available to them.
• The staff member responsible for Reception at the time of the evacuation should bring the Visitor
Sign-In Log with them to the assembly location.
• Employees should report to their in-charge/supervisor who in turn, report to Senior Managers.
• Supervisors will conduct a head-count upon arrival at the assembly location.
• Conduct a second headcount at the designated meeting area, comparing against Employee
and Visitor Lists.
• All employees should remain in the assembly location until the “all clear” has been given
by the fire department.
• The most senior Manager on site at the time should arrange for the re-start of business activities
and coordinate media relations if necessary. They should also meet with Supervisors following the
emergency to assess the performance of the emergency plan.
