“STOP!” said Mrs. MacCreadle, “I’ve heard enough! It is quite
obvious that you HAVE been paying attention, so I will continue with
the story!”
She went back to the desk at the front of the classroom, picked the
book up, found the place and started to read again.
But Jeremiah wasn’t interested. He was back in his little room in the
castle, wrapped in blankets and looking out through the window. Snow
was still falling, gently, and a yellow moon had begun to rise over the
stone walls. Down in the court yard a wind whistled round and round,
sending the snow into little flurries. Jeremiah smiled. This story at least
had found a happy ending.
