It can help with reducing the need for exogenous insulin and better the
blood glucose level.
There are two kinds of fiber:
• Soluble – These are found in foods such as oat, legumes and
some fruit. When combined with water, it creates a gel that
causes the stomach’s content to leave the digestive tract
slowly. It’s thought that this fiber can also slow the glucose
absorption rate.
• Insoluble fiber – These are found in whole grain cereals,
breads and certain vegetables, which can increase the amount
of stool and stop constipation.
The biggest issue with fiber consumption is that diabetics may need to
adjust their insulin dosage to stop hypoglycemia from happening.
Make sure to steadily increase the consumption of fiber to avoid any
complications and talk with a dietician.
