• Construction and operation

• The tube bundle with the attached tube ends structurally independent
of the shell (can move relative to the shell).

• The main distribution chamber is split with a baffle to create a two-

pass for the fluid to be heated

• The steam is introduced through the shell flowing perpendicular to
the tubes by means of baffles without multiple steam pass (single

pass).

• Advantages and disadvantages

1. Multipath of the fluid to be heated increases the

velocity of the fluid to be heated, minimizing
formation of scales increasing heat transfer rate

2.The flow of the steam is perpendicular to
the tubes, increasing the heat transfer rate.
3. The tube bundle is not fixed and can move

relative to shell so: • Steam still moves

1- can be removed for cleaning or replacement on a single pass.

2- This allows tubes expansion avoiding
buckling of tubes or complete separation of the
tubes from the sheets.
