Giambattista Piranesi is the most improtant name of the romantic discourse. He is a Venetian
architect, and engineer. His works are famous with exaggerated scale, theatrical angles, lightning
effects, a mood of decaying grandeur, elaborate detail. His design features are darkness, solitude,
thrill, labyrinthian, cruosity... He is not only the ancestor of archaeologists, archivists and even
architects; but also the ancestor of those who create dream and nightmare worlds.
