Floppy infant


               Definition:

               Sever persistent hypotonia present at birth or early infancy

               Causes :

                   ➢  Cerebral :

               Perinatal asphyxia.

               Kernicterus.

               Cerebral palsy (atonic type).



                   ➢  Chromosomal anomalies including down syndrome.



                   ➢  Spinal cord lesion:

               Anterior horn cell disease (Werding Hoffman spinal muscular atrophy).

               Early extensive poliomyelitis.



                   ➢  Peripheral nerves

               Acute polyneuropathy.

               Guilllain Barre Syndrome (GBS)

               Congenital sensory neuropathy.



                   ➢  Neuromuscular :

               Neonatal myasthenia gravis                      Infantile botulism



                   ➢  Myopathies :

               Muscular dystrophies.               Congenital myopathies.           Polymyositis.
