-Turricephaly :Premature closure of multiple sutures: conical shaped skull
(tower shaped skull).
➢ Palpation of the sutures: It reveal prominent bony ridge and fusion of
the suture
# Neurological examination : it is usually normal when only one suture is
closed.
Neurological complications: Hydrocephalus and increased intracranial
pressure when two or more sutures are closed.
Investigations :
-Plain X ray of skull: confirm fusion of sutures .
-CT to detect hydrocephalus: emergency operation .
Treatment : craniotomy (separation of sutures ) is indicated in cases of
-Symptomatic cases due to hydrocephalus or increased intracranial tension.
-Asymptomatic cases for cosmetic reasons.
Syndromatic disorders associated with craniostenosis:
Crouzon Syndrome :
AD inheritance
Brachycephalic skull
Ocular manifestations : proptosis &orbital hypertelorism
Hypoplasia of the maxilla
Acrocephalosyndactly : polydactly and microcephaly.
