Using social media
As mentioned at the start of this guide, a large percentage of ebook buyers are active social media users, so this is something you need to get to grips with. With an ebook, the product is all online; you have nothing physical to show, so social and internet marketing are therefore essential.
The main social networking sites that readers and self-publishers find to be most
effective are Twitter and Facebook. Pinterest is also becoming ver y popular, and is one of the social media sites that most ebook retailers link to. Goodreads is a social networking site for authors. It’s free for you to join and a good way to interact with people who love ebooks.
As we’ve already established, most ebook retailers have a ‘share’ facility for the ebooks they are selling – allowing readers and browsers to share the book with their followers on Facebook and Twitter by clicking a button. For example, you can tweet or share on Facebook each time your ebook becomes available on a new retailers’ site, or for any price promotions, or if you want to highlight a particularly good reader review. Incorporating some social media marketing into your ebook publication plans is easy and essential.
Our ebook team will tweet when a new ebook becomes available, but it has been clearly demonstrated that an author starting their own social media campaign can really make a difference for sales – it allows you to tell readers of any review
If you don’t feel confident about setting up and getting going with social media, then speak to the marketing team about the social media marketing that we offer on an author’s behalf, or read more about this here: https://www.troubador.co.uk/matador/marketing/#SocialMediaMarketing
