Our Overview of the Main Sites
TWITTER
Twitter is an online social networking and micro-‘blogging’ service that enables users to send and read messages called ‘tweets’. These are short bits of information commonly referred to as ‘posts’. When you open a Twitter account, you can choose your Twitter name, which is always prefixed with an @ symbol – i.e. @username. This can also be referred to as your Twitter ‘handle’, an identifier to set you apart from the rest of the many, many users. It is useful to have this as either your author name or book name, so you are more visible to those searching for you. People who want to connect with you on Twitter can ‘follow’ you, and you can ‘follow’ them or others. Once you follow someone, you see their posts and updates in your Twitter timeline. Tweets are not as limited as they once were, but they are not built for Hamlet-type monologues.
