Albert found all of this

                             appalling, and he was very
                              outspoken about his views on

                              segregation. He believed that it
was a “disease” caused by the

                              attitudes of white people, and
he would later say, “I do not

intend to be quiet about it.”

Marian Anderson Albert treated everyone with
                          equal consideration and stood up
for those who were treated unfairly. When

singer Marian Anderson came to Princeton
and was refused a hotel room because of her

race, Albert invited her to stay in his home.
He even paid the tuition of a young black

student who could not afford to attend
university. In addition, he joined the

           National Association for the Advancement
           of Colored People (NAACP).

Albert would continue to fight against
racism in America in the years ahead. In the

late 1930s, however, he was very worried
about what was happening on the other side
