must be kept until they are collected.
"At Mechlin they must ask the conductor, and
not someone else, the camiage for Bruges, for the
         place there changes frequently.
"At the station in Bruges they will get off and
arrange with one of the porters for sixteen centimes
and no more. They must say that they wish to go

On June l2th Brother Ryken wrote rhe Father Rector
of the local Jesuits, asking for a letter of introduction
to the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Namur
where he planned to visit so that he could o'bserve their
methods of instruction and learn from their novice-
master about the training of novices.
He had a second request: "I take the liberty to ask
you also for a letter of introduction to the Tesuit Fathers
in Namur in order to facilitate my introd"uction to the
home of the Brothers. I will be obliged for your kind
help. I plan to start tomorrow.',
It was Brother Ryken's intention to leave Bruges on
June l3th. There are in his letter-file three letters
bearing a June l4th date. If Ryken did leave as he
had planned, he unintentionally deprived himself of
the pleasure of a very exciting letter from Father Van
       Beek:
