Choosing a Medical Plan
When choosing a medical plan, remember to compare your company plan
opions to those available from a spouse’s or domesic partner’s plan to
determine which best its your situaion. Please be sure to consider if it is
more cost efecive to be covered separately.

Consider the types of medical expenses you expect to incur next year and how
they would be covered under all available plans. You should also visit the DAN
beneitsPLUS website for more informaion about your medical plan opions.

Add up your expected out-of-pocket costs, taking the following into account.

X Your contribuions for coverage: The total amount taken out of each
paycheck

Z If you wish to reduce your contribuions, you may consider
changing your medical opion or coverage level, or consider other
opions available to you such as elecing coverage under your
spouse’s or domesic partner’s medical plan

X Annual deducibles: The amount you pay before the medical
plans pay beneits for certain services; keep in mind with all plans,
deducibles are higher for out-of-network care
X Annual out-of-pocket limit: The maximum you pay (deducibles,
copays, and coinsurance) before the plan pays 100% of eligible
expenses for the rest of the year
X Copays: The amount you pay under the PPO plans when you need an
oice visit, emergency room visit, or prescripion drugs

Z Although copays don’t count towards the deducible, medical and
prescripion drug copays will count towards the annual out-of-
pocket limit

X Coinsurance: The percentage of healthcare expenses you pay for both
in- and out-of-network services; for example, if the plan pays 80% of the
cost of an in-network hospital stay, you would pay the remaining 20%
