Liverpool and Glasgow were whittled down as finalists from a shortlist of seven and spent
several weeks attempting to woo the BBC selection panel with tours and pitches. A central part
of Liverpool’s bid was to provide “an extraordinary celebration of Ukrainian culture”, including
an exchange programme between Ukrainian and Liverpudlian artists.
Statues around the city will be adorned with traditional Ukrainian headdress and walls will be
decorated with Ukrainian art, organisers said.
