However, to know Liverpool is to know its distinct quarters. Whether you want late-
night live music and memorabilia, art exhibitions and architecture, street food and craft
beer, or history and heritage, four quarters are the keys to unlocking the Liver Bird’s
cage.
Come together: the Cavern Quarter
Did you know that Liverpool lays claim to the most UK Singles Chart No 1s ever? I
didn’t, but apparently almost 60 UK No 1s can be traced back to the city.
It’s a cliché to say that music flows through its veins, but in this Unesco city of music
(awarded in 2015), the streets really do seem to sing. Liverpool has given us the Beatles,
Cilla Black, Dead or Alive, Melanie C, Atomic Kitten, Gerry and the Pacemakers,
Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Sonia and many more, so hosting Eurovision is but another
feather in the city’s cap.
The Cavern Quarter is the epicentre of Liverpool’s music scene. Mathew Street and the
surrounding lanes are home to iconic music venues, such as the original Cavern Club
and Cavern Pub. Grab a selfie with statues of John Lennon, Cilla Black and Eleanor
Rigby, stop by the Wall of Fame, and at night find the quarter illuminated in projections
