something a little different, find experimental mixology at the Alchemist and a

Celebrate diversity: Ropewalks
Bookended by Liverpool Central Station and the “bombed-out church” (St Luke’s), Bold
Street is an artery of what are known as the Ropewalks — a cluster of streets named
after the rope-making craft for the shipping trade that dominated the area in the 19th
century.
In 2023 it’s more of an eating and drinking highway, with all manner of brunch spots,
coffee haunts, wine bars and quirky bazaars. Don’t miss the modern Middle Eastern
bistro Maray or the pizza-pop up Nightcrawler at the award-winning pub the Merchant.
Also make a brunch booking at Bold Street Coffee or enjoy sundowners at Ropes &
Twines, a wine bar. Ropewalks is a bastion of independent boutiques, galleries, beautiful
churches and cultural venues too, including the Epstein Theatre, the Bluecoat
contemporary arts centre and the Fact film and art media centre.
