If the Cavern Quarter isn’t your bag, you’ll find one of Europe’s finest orchestras, the

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, residing in the resplendent art deco surrounds of “the

Phil” (Philharmonic Hall) on Hope Street. At night, a thriving late scene full of clubs and
pubs is found around Concert Square, Seel Street, Fleet Street and Slater Street.

            All aboard: Waterfront
This is a port city proud of its shipping heritage, having been the home of the White Star

Line and Cunard, and the registered port for liners such as RMS Titanic and RMS

Lusitania. Anchoring the Waterfront area is Pier Head, where visitors can learn about the

city’s global significance via its geography, history and culture at the Museum of

Liverpool. Opened in 2011, the angular, low-rise building and surrounding plaza
architecturally reflects the trading ships that used to dominate the harbour. Across

several levels, interactive exhibitions document 10,000 years of Merseyside’s history

and introduce visitors to the city’s biggest names while delving into its industrial and

shipping heritage, as well as its sporting and music legacy.
