o car show season in the northern part of the United States would be complete without the
patronage to the Frankensteiner’s Ball. October 14, 2017 participants made their annual (often
Nchilly) early morning trek to the Isanti County Fairgrounds in Cambridge, Minnesota.
The Frankensteiners car club based out of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and their event
known as the “Frankensteiner’s Ball” has become an end of the car season grand fi nale of sorts
in the area. The show appeals to all types of car enthusiasts, but is heavily steeped in rat rod
culture. It’s also a favorite event for families and draws out little witches and goblins from all
over the area to collect candy from the trunks of the 1035 cars that were on display this year,
many decked out in the Halloween tradition.
There is defi nitely a fall festival feeling at this event. Vendors lined the car show with last-chance-for-
the-season deals on all sorts of arts and swag tailor-made for the gearhead set. From the main stage
music played and a costume contest was held. The Minnesota Viking Cheerleaders roamed the crowd,
stopping to pose for photos with fans. The air wafted with the mingled scent of cinnamon kettle corn and
burnouts. Spectators fi lled the bleachers to cheer on the participants of one of the area’s most popular
and well-known shows - their very lively muffl er rapping, burnout and frame throwing contests.
Frankensteiner’s Ball 12 certainly did not disappoint with its special mix of all the baddest builds, top
vendors, and family tradition.
