It’s hard to celebrate 50 issues of Rat Rod without
talking about the Tours. Some were long, grueling…
some short and scenic – and in recent years
condensed into part of our Build-Off Weekend.
But what they all have in common is the ultimate
freedom of the open road, no matter where that
road is. Some of our most memorable moments
happen here, sometimes in the most unexpected
places – and that’s what makes this part of
rat rod culture so exciting.
Each Tour has started the same way, in the small
town of Mahtowa, MN, where the magazine staff
makes its offi cial departure. Here are some of the
