Making Math Matter: It’s a Way of Life with Infinite Possibilities

To master mulplicave thinking, students need to be manipulang, exploring, thinking, creang,
collaborang, and communicang. Join us to experience a variety of engaging strategies that expose children
to mulplicave thinking, not just for basic facts, but also for larger numbers. Grades 3 - 5
                                                  Tami Broomall, Spartanburg District 6

Session 129 will be held in 201 from 9:00 -9:50.

Go Beyond Calculators into Computer Programming Through Excel Macros Part 1
Many teachers are adept at using Excel, but not many exploit the power of macros. We will provide a clear,
hands-on, and easily understood instrucon via many pernent examples. The idea is to move past
calculators into computer programming as state boards push this transion. (Please bring a laptop with Excel
                                                     loaded.) Grades 6 - 12
                                                  Dr. Sam Narimetla, Tennesee Tech

                                         Session 130 will be held in 202 A from 9:00 -9:50.

Struggle That Scks: Designing Math Tasks That Build Perseverance and Reasoning

Struggle doesn’t have to shut students down. It can fuel deeper reasoning. In this session, you’ll experience
challenging tasks, reflect on scaffolds that support without reducing rigor, and pracce redesigning sample
problems to create more opportunies for producve struggle in K–12 classrooms. Grades K - 12

                                                       Erika Sweet, S2TEM

                                                      Rhet Netles, S2TEM

                                         Session 131 will be held in 202 B from 9:00 -9:50.
