SECURITY MEASURES

Personal information of a customer is a data only available or subjected to the customer. No additional
user have access to the use of these data information. Therefore, permission must be given before
using the data. If the data is an ID or personal account number, this type of data information should only
subjected to or use by the data subject.

The Data Protection Act 1998, act of Parliament is designed to protect personal data stored on
computers or in an organized paper filing system. It follows the EU Data Protection Directive 1995
protection, processing and movement of data. Individuals have legal rights to control information about
themselves. Customers’ personal information is any information where you can identify or reasonably
identify the individual. It doesn’t matter if the information or opinion is true or what form it is recorded
in.

Personal information might include customers’:
Name, signature, address, email, telephone number, date of birth, medical records, bank account
details, where they work, etc. These data information may be used against them, about their
background or living conditions. ‘’About where they live or work’’ – unauthorized access to this type of
information may mean no job or unemployment since the information is used against them or to cause
them lose their jobs and reputation.

Amazon however should ensure security of customers’ personal information to protect the data
information from an unauthorized user or access.

Scammers are highly targeting credit cards and bank account information because it is a unique data
and with their access to the data information, they can make fortune! Amazon should ensure the
security of credit card information to prevent hackers or scammers getting access to customer personal
information, about their bank account number, and their personal identification pin number. These
information can be used by a scammer or a phisher to void customer’s bank account.
Amazon should ensure that when using customer information to do any form of advertisement,
transaction or improvement to their websites, permission must be given by the data subject before
using the information.

Amazon should train its member of staffs about how to handle customer personal information to
prevent hackers accessing the information. Authentication measures should be put in place to prevent
unauthorized access. Also, all work facilities must be locked to prevent unauthorized access to customer
personal information.
A ‘’secure server’’ is a web server that provides secure online transactions. Secure servers are used by
online retailers (Amazon) with a web presence. It ensures that the information captured or collected are
processed and protected. During transferring or exchanging of goods and services (payment), data
information is collected and processed, the server secures the data, adds padlocks on the data, to
encrypt the data information and to block unauthorized access from scammers getting a copy of
customer’s personal information. ‘Firewalls are also used to access only notified data information and to
block all unauthorized access.
