One of AARP’s foci is caregiving. Caregiving is something that will always be relevant as long as there is life.
During your lifetime, you will either be cared for or caring for someone. Since this issue is prevalent in the Afri-
can American community, TLOD felt a need to become involved and embarked upon a four-year partnership
with AARP. The partnership includes providing awareness of the many aspects of caregiving – the physical, fi-
nancial and legal through forums, health fairs, seminars, etc.
The caregiving initiative was rolled out at Parliamen-Top 2016 with a panel of experts discussing their experiences
with caregiving. Future panels and/or forums of this kind will be presented at all area conferences and Syn-Lod.
Chapters are also encouraged to present these types of events in their communities.
In addition, AARP sponsored a portion of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Gala held in
Houston, Texas by providing Regina Bell for the entertainment.
With the caregiving initiative, TLOD also partners with The Balm in Gilead and The Black Women’s Agenda.
