named Chair of the American
Institute of Architects’ Academy of
Architecture for Health’s first Miami
Chapter.
As chair and founder of AAH’s
Miami chapter, Egea will promote the
collaboration between professionals
involved in healthcare design and
construction including healthcare
providers, designers, consultants,
construction managers and vendors.
He will also represent the Miami
chapter at a national level and oversee Eduardo Egea
the content and planning of all the
AAH Miami events for the next two years.

Florida Medical Center Opens
Electrophysiology Lab
to Enhance Patient Care
As part of its commitment to better serve the community, The Heart Institute of Florida at
Florida Medical Center, a campus of North Shore proudly unveils their new electrophysiology
(EP) lab. The EP lab has some of the most cutting edge and state of the art equipment in South
Florida. All of the procedures are performed by physicians with advanced training in heart
rhythm disorders and are supported by a team of specially trained health care professionals, tech-
nicians and nurses.
Millions of people experience irregular heartbeats, called arrhythmias, at some point in their
lives. This can happen to healthy people free of heart disease. Some abnormal heart rhythms can
be serious or even deadly, and having other types of heart disease can also increase the risk of
arrhythmias. Introducing advancements in the medical technology used to diagnose and treat this
condition is more important than ever before at Florida Medical Center. The new EP Lab will help
the physicians provide expedited and more efficient cardiac care to Broward County residents.

ering treatments to patients quickly and safely,” said Trey Abshier, CEO of Florida Medical
Center.
The EP lab features the Philips EP Cockpit with Clarity IQ technology, including a 60” QHD
screen which helps to provide outstanding data integration and versatility for improved diagnosis
and treatment during electrophysiology procedures. The Clarity IQ X-ray system from Philips
will provide significantly reduced x-ray dose while achieving high quality imaging for precise
catheter navigation. The lab is also one of the few hospitals in Florida to offer the St. Jude ESI
mapping system, which creates 3-D maps of a patient’s heart and is designed to help board-certi-
fied electrophysiologists navigate the heart by generating an extremely accurate 3-D map.
