14. The Punctuation







               The use of standard marks and signs in writing and printing to separate words

          into sentences, clauses and phrases in order to classify meaning.


          Sign of Full Stop ( . )

          1.  A full stop indicates the longest pause. It is used after the end of a sentence.


               Examples :      (a) God is everywhere.


                                (b) Come here now.


          2.  Full stop is also used after an abbreviation.

                                    .
               Examples :      S H O ,  B A ,   M B B S ,  etc.

                                            .
          Sign of Question Mark ( ? )
               The question mark ( ? ) is placed at the end of an interrogative sentence.
               Examples :      (a) What is your name?


                                (b) Where do you live?

          Sign of Comma ( , )


               The comma indicates the shortest pause.


               Examples :      (a) Geeta is an intelligent helpful and obedient girl.

                                (b) Ramesh  Suresh and Sunil are brothers.
          Sign of Exclamation Mark ( ! )


               The exclamation mark ( ! ) is used after an exclamatory sentence.
