European Bears
In United Kingdom
During a holiday in Belgium, sculptor Peter
Fagan and his wife Frances found four plush
teddy bears in an old Curio shop. They were
seen to be in serious need of adoption.
The real bears’ origins remain mysteries but
each had a good life prior to being adopted.
Frances named them; Gustav von Bruin, Robert
(Ro-bear), August-String and Peregrine.
Models were cast of the Curios Shop with the
four bears inside and model figurines of
each of the bears were also sold separately.
Colour Box Limited was in the bear business in a
big way; following in the steps of the four
plush bears & then from their resin models.
The Belgian shop’s bears are fire-bear
ancestors. Every bear had a back-story in a
booklet supplied with the model bear. Until
the business closed in 2002. The bears are
collectors pieces nowadays.
