               Paragraphs






               When you move from one body paragraph to the next, transitional
               words act as signposts. In the first body paragraph, often no transition

               is needed. If you use a transitional word or expression, a simple “first

               of all,” or “one reason . . .” usually works well. However, you should

               avoid a mechanical “first, second, third” approach. Instead, vary your

               transitional techniques. In the second and third body paragraphs,
