Examples
Light waves from an advancing light source become shorter and
take on a blue tint, while light waves from a retreating body
become longer and have a red tint (Jones and Wilson 507).
Because people tend to lose lean body mass as they age, older
adults may become increasingly susceptible to the effects of
alcohol (Blow, Oslin, and Barry 50–54).
Parenthetical references to a work by more than three authors should
include the lead author’s name and the abbreviation et al., which
means “and others.”

Unless parents are involved and patients are motivated, medical
professionals may have little success in treating childhood obesity
(Story et al. 210).
A Work with No Author Listed.
Some works, such as editorials, reports, Web pages, and
encyclopedia articles, may have no author listed. Each parenthetical
reference should include the first word of the title (unless it is a, an, or
the) and the page number(s), if any. Shortened book titles are
italicized; article titles are put in quotation marks.
