We have known that current drawn from a battery is unidirectional. The
polarities of the battery are marked +ve and −ve. When a particular load, say
a lamp (represented by its resistance) is connected across the two terminals of
the battery, current flows through the lamp in a particular direction. The
magnitude of current as well as its direction remains constant with respect to
time as long as the battery voltage remains constant. Such a current is known
as steady or constant-value direct current.
