102 TODAY’S BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

                    • Assume nothing—check in advance whether you’ll be using
a computer on sight that has Windows 7 or Windows 98,
Microsoft Office 2010 or 2007. It is your responsibility to
make sure your technology is compatible with the technol-
                      ogy you’ll use.
                    • Do not use YouTube. If you want to use video, import it
into your presentation as a video clip, not as a hypertext link.
                    • Cue up your digital or analog media, such as a DVD, CD,
or videotape to make sure these don’t create a problem or a
                      distraction in your presentation.
                    • Have a back-up plan (or two) in case your technology fails.
For example, have your presentation on two different jump
drives (thumb drives) in case one fails; and, have printouts of
your slides with you in case the technology fails.
                    • Remind yourself continuously what it is you hope your audi-
ence remembers after your presentation. Stay on message.
