After the red flag was flown following the original heat one start, Durham skipped through the first set of rhythms and pivoted his way to the third prior to the main triple. “DD” would be a mainstay on the last step of the box, until being overtook by former teammate Justin Hill (Throwing a fist pump in honor of Hill in the process, nothing less to be expected). Darryn would remain here until race end, 4th, advancing to the main event.
It seemed to be Darryn’s first main event in a long time, and that it was. Many would be shaken by a small fear of the unknown, but never Durham. Hell, this was just another place to show the drain plug, only this time, in front of 50,000(+).
With an exceptional jump, Durham navigated his way to second place in the opening moments. Trailing Martin Davalos, the Fasthouse captain felt immediate pressure from Malcolm Stewart as well, and would eventually be dropped by the Honda rider, 3rd by lap three. Next up, fellow veteran Tyler Bowers.
While many would shy away from running the bruiser high, Durham showed tenacity and ran Tyler to the outside, putting up a fight for a number of laps. With no shame however, Durham began to slide as each teams respective factory rider began to creep past him. What should be expected of a kid who’s had that little seat time these past few years?
Seventh at the halfway point, the effects of little to no recent main event experience began to take its toll. Eighth with four to go, Darryn began to look back and encounter a bit of headshake through the deteriorating moguls. The end was
in sight, and Darryn would take the checkered flag in a satisfying seventh position.
