AFP surveillance system in Sudan was passive surveillance up to 1999, it means the acvi-
es were depending on referred cases from hospitals and clinics for lab invesgaon. At
the beginning of the year 2000, WHO made tremendous inputs to establish an efficient
AFP surveillance system in the country. It has provided technical assistance on capacity of
staff and tools development, transportaon, supplies, equipment, communicaon means,
staff and running costs.
AFP surveillance in Sudan has reached and maintained cerficaon level quality indicators
since the beginning of 2001. An internaonal review was conducted 28th November to
the 7th of December 2017 which concluded that Sudan has a robust structure for AFP
surveillance with good understanding of roles and responsibilies and has enthusiasc
staff at all levels. It meets all AFP surveillance internaonal indicators. Some gaps were
idenfied by the review and recommendaons were made, the country’s team addressed
implementaon of these recommendaon through a structured matrix and quarterly
follow up.
The current annual technical report for the year 2018 is covering progress and challenges
of essenal components of the program. The content of the report includes background
