Within a few weeks, everyone in the kingdom had the glasses and were wearing them all of the time. A few weeks later, the King summoned the Peddler to the castle. The King was seated in his chair, deep in thought, as the Peddler entered. “You want to see me Your Majesty?” the Peddler asked.
The King looked up and said, “A most curious thing is happening. There is great unrest in the Kingdom. People are complaining about having to wear the glasses. They have formed a committee to come and see me.” “That is most interesting,” the Peddler replied. “I don’t understand the unhappiness,” said the King, “But I want you with me when I hold an audience with this committee.” “I will be glad to accompany you,” the
Peddler replied.
Just then, a small group of the King’s subjects entered the great hall. They obviously came from all walks of life, as you could tell by their clothes. There were lawyers and bankers, farmers and teachers. They all approached very slowly, bowing very low.
“Who is your spokesman,” the King asked. A small woman approached and said, “I am, Your Majesty.” “Well, you have your audience. Now speak your piece,” the King said with some aggravation in his voice. “Sire, we have come to complain about the glasses,” she said in a hushed tone.
Well, I had a feeling something like this might happen
as things were going too smoothly. Let’s listen to what they want to complain about.
