P. 2
Dear Doll Attic Family:
We are privileged to be able to offer you the private collection of Shae Silver, who passed away in
January of 2016. Many of you may have met Shae at a Barbie or Ken Convention; in fact he probably
was the one who beat you to a holy grail before the blink of an eye. He had a knack for finding treasures
wherever he went, and he cherished them in his collection.
Shae could be seen examining his purchases with a jeweler’s loop and preferred all original dolls to those
that had been restored. He also had a passion for fashion and amassed a beautiful collection of vintage
and Mod dolls and outfits, Japanese exclusives, wonderful licensed products and store displays.
His untimely death rocked the Barbie Collecting community and we miss his discerning taste and deep
appreciation of the beauty of Barbie.
His collection focused on the finest examples of Vintage and Mod. His passion was particularly for the
American Girl/Color Magic era, and he took deep joy in amassing a premium collection. His extensive
collection will be featured in two Doll Attic Auctions in 2017; the next auction will take place in November.
What is extraordinary about Shae’s collection is that there are items that even the most seasoned
collectors have never seen before! One thing we can share is throughout the years of our auction, Shae
was the one keeping the auction lines open to the wee hours of the morning, outbidding you on the grail
he set his heart on.
Doll Attic was honored to be chosen by the Silver Family to offer Shae’s collection to the Barbie world. We
are especially pleased to continue his legacy by offering dolls just the way he enjoyed them in his
collection. You will notice that there are gorgeous NRFB examples, but also dolls that he customized either
with a flattering hair restyle or by creating the perfect classic combination with just the right outfit. His flair
for fashion was not always era consistent or accessory correct, but we are presenting his collection as we
received it from the family.
Shae obviously got enormous pleasure from the hobby and several years ago, selectively shared a
portion of his collection on his Flickr account*. The Flickr account is a snapshot from years ago and his
collection evolved and changed over the years. Shae was an extremely private individual, but he also
liked his collection to be the center of attention. What a gift he left to us, with his amazing selections from
Barbie history.
We are excited to share Shae’s collection with you, and feel that it presents an opportunity for every
Barbie collector to enhance and upgrade their collection.
We wish to thank the Silver Family for allowing us the privilege of showcasing Shae’s beautiful items and
making them available to his fellow collectors.
We can’t help but feel that Shae is doing a happy dance, knowing that his collection is going to a
community that will forever appreciate his legacy.
To my dear friend Shae, this one is for you!
