Tamahotu , TUMOANA ) was born on 5 Apr 1860 in Kaitaia, died on 27 Sep 1933 at
age 73, and was buried in Rangitoto Urupa, Whangape.
Rapunga Kupu Akoako: (korero taken from "Boroughdale Murray, the
beginning of a NZ dynasty"et al) Tuakana Wata Karaehe Murray; was
associated with the first store at Whangape near Herekino where he initially
sold loose leaf tea, flour and sugar from huge sacks. Supplies were brought
from Auckland by scow to Awanui, then by bullock down Ninety Mile beach
Wata Karaehe Murray
(a 4 day trek). He also sold dungarees and other clothing to the locals. Later a
mill was opened up at Whangape by an Auckland firm, which also opened a
shop on the site for mill workers, so he converted his store into a butchers shop, for which he
slaughtered his own animals. The Puku family owned a great deal of land at Whangape which he
farmed with cattle and sheep.
Tuakana marena Akinihi Puku Puhipi [325] [MRIN: 106]. Akinihi was born about
1861 in Whangape and died on 19 Aug 1929 aged about 68.
