RURAL COMMUNITIES & THE
CHALLENGES THEY FACE.
A rural community is set outside of the city and towns
and are often farming settlements. While there are
great benefits to living in these communities like the
clean air and fresh foods, there are many hardships:
Underpopulation: When the rate of people moving out
is higher than those coming to the area.
The migration of young people: This can leave the
area with a large ageing population. A community
can deteriorate without the input of younger
generations.
Poor road network and inadequate infrastructure.
Poor level of education.
Overdependence on subsistence agriculture:
Most of the inhabitants depend on farms as their main
source of income because there are few commercial
and manufacturing industries in these areas.
Lack of investment: This is one of the most
serious problems facing rural communities. Without
economic growth, villages become economically
stagnant when farms and businesses are dying.
