Following COVID guidelines, the SEG Student Chapter transitioned its Lunch and Learn lectures to a virtual format, including
11 technical lectures by speakers of diverse backgrounds. Speakers included Tarryn Cawood, Farhad Bouzari, Patrick High-
smith, Sally Goodman, Rose Clarke, Peter Megaw, Caroline Perring, Mike Sepp, Maria Rodriguez-Mustafa, and Anne McCaf-
       ferty.

Two meetings focused on career advice. The first, led by Dr. Steve Enders and hosted in conjunction with WIM and SME, was
designed to improve students’ networking skills. The second was a more extensive Career Panel, featuring GE’s Mary Doherty
as well as Quinton Hennigh, Mary Little, Paul Bedrosian, and Simone Runyon. This panel provided students with career ad-
vice from multiple economic geology sectors and included students from other university chapters.

We took advantage of some great fall weather and kept socially distant at two outdoor lunches – the first to welcome everyone
back and the second in conjunction with the AAPG and AEG student chapters. We also ran two field days over Fall Break to
teach gold panning (see pictures). Participating students were from Geology & Geological Engineering as well as the Space
       Resources and Mechanical Engineering departments.

CSM AAPG Wrap Up – Fall 2020

The Mines AAPG Chapter is having a safe and successful year so far! We have hosted speakers from local Denver companies
such as Ovintiv to international operators, Chevron. The talks spanned offshore reservoir geology, geosteering 101 and imple-
menting data analytics for shale operators. While it is nice to see people in person, having virtual events has opened up more
speakers to our club. We were also able to give the geology trail a good spruce up and had great weather.
Earlier in the semester, we hosted outdoor and socially distanced lunches in Lyons park to catch up with old friends and new
colleagues while enjoying the nice Colorado weather.
Spring semester will be mainly virtual events still, but hopefully once it warms back up in Golden the lunches in the park will
resume. While this year will be light on field trips and other events, the new officers, Selena Neale and Alex Branda, are al-
ready planning on making up for it in Fall of 2021 with field trips and other in person events!
