                                     Descriptive Adjectives



               Four types of descriptive adjectives are:

                   a.  colour
                   b.  size
                   c.  shape
                   d.  quality

               1. Colour – red, green, white, black, etc

               e.g. - I have a black cat named Ruby.

                      - Most part of Wendy’s room has monochrome tone.

                      - The yellow house at the corner of the street is owned by an
               Indian uncle.

               2. Size – tiny, wide, huge, thin, etc

               e.g. - Sarah is very petite for a lady her age.

                      - You can find a vast amount of information on the internet.

                      - Uwais was a chubby kid but has grown up to be a muscular guy.

               3. Shape – round, flat, rectangle, triangular, etc

               e.g. - That baby has been walking in circular motion for a while.

                      - Please adjust the distorted pictures and send them again later.

                      - “Be very careful of the steep stairs, students.” says Mr Rahman to his students.

               4. Quality – used to describe personality, taste, sound, emotion, appearance, situation,
               etc

                                –  personality - cold, timid, shy, awkward, etc

                                – taste - salty, bland, yummy, sweet, etc

                                – sound - faint, loud, soft, quiet, etc

                                – emotion - sad, lazy, nervous, manic, etc

                                – appearance - elegant, clean, handsome, plain, etc

                                – situation - minor, bad, illegal, impossible

               e.g. - Adlin is really that rich aunt who brings you along to travel.

                      - The victims are in critical condition and are still being treated in ICU.

                      - Nina said she heard a faint voice when they were walking near the river.
