Personal Reflection # 2
Write a 1 page summary (12 font, Times New Roman) relating how these
values at work may influence your future career choices.
Examples of Values at Work: High Salary, Recognition, Independence, Helping Others, Economic
Security, Variety, Creativity, Working with People, Responsibility.
A career path is often chosen with great consideration because most people are under the
impression that whichever path they choose will most likely dictate the course of their life. To a
certain degree, it is not incorrect, however, this is true for all career paths if that is what is given
too much focus. As that may be, instead of being wary of what my future career could potentially
lead to, I am looking for a career that is always changing in some way or form, providing variety
to me. That would be because not only would it help me build upon the skills I already possess,
but it would also permit me to create, expand and utilize different practical skills that can be
applied to a greater scope than that of this career. An example of such a career, would be
teaching, as the new generations of students vary year by year in whatever way or form, whether
it be intelligence or social mannerisms, and to deal with them, would exercise my teaching
capabilities as well as further developing my intrapersonal skills such as the ability to stay calm
in stressful situations. Another value I look for in my career is the guarantee of economic
security, because although I do enjoy variety to better myself as a person, the thought of
potentially losing my job for an invalid reason is quite stressful. In other words, for the benefit of
my own health and mental reassurance, I would be inclined to look for a job that has a sense of
stability to it. All in all, due to the importance of practicality, work values such as variety and
economic security, have a guiding, yet restricting influence on my future career choices.
