as possible, injuries do not heal and function can
deteriorate.
To give an example that most people can relate
to, do you remember when you were a child or
teenager and injured yourself? How quickly did
you heal at that time? How quickly do you heal
now (if at all)? One of the reasons for this
according to Chinese medical theory is that the
electrical signals that the cells need to understand
how to heal simply do not work as efficiently as
when we were young.
Think about when your computer is slow or not
functioning as it is supposed to. Many times,
rebooting the computer will help it to work more
effectively. This is analogous to how acupuncture
works. Acupuncture works to “reboot” the
electrical signaling process in the body.
Acupuncture needles are placed through the skin
and into the extracellular matrix – the spaces
between the cells and tissues. After insertion, the
needles are spun. As the needles are spun, they grab
onto the tissues of the extracellular matrix. These
tissues are piezoelectric which means that when
you pull on them, they create an electrical flow.
