Back pain due to
intervertebral disc damage
For those of us who have suffered back pain, you
know that it can totally disrupt your life. Even simple
things like walking to the bathroom can be agony.
Fortunately, there are ways to prevent back pain from
herniated discs.
Before explaining what you can do to prevent back
pain, you need to understand what happens in your back
that causes the pain. There are many potential causes of
back pain. This booklet will focus on back pain due to
disc problems.
Intervertebral discs serve as shock absorbers between
the bones of the spine. The disc is made up of two
components. The outer part known as the anulus fibrosis
is made up of 13 rings of fibers. This is what provides
structure to the disc. The inner part, known as the
nucleus pulposus, is a jelly like substance. This part is
what allows the disc to serve as a cushion. The outer
part of the disc helps contain the inner part of the disc .
