When you bend forward, the weight of your body is
now overly distributed to the front of the disc. This
forces the mass of the disc backwards. If the force on
the disc is too great, fibers on the back of the disc may
be damaged. (Think blown out.)

The outer 3 fibrous layers of the disc have many
nerves and if the fibers are damaged, this irritates the
nerves there and generates a lot of pain. If the outer
fibers are damaged enough, the jelly like center can leak
out further irritating the nerves. This is called a disc
prolapse.
